Jerome A. Scherer, great-grandfather of the present owner and founder of Scherer’s Jewelers, took a job with a jeweler on Seneca St. in Buffalo. Spurred by a desire to make jewelry, in 1878 he found employment with Heintz Bros, a Buffalo ring manufacturer. With experience and skill, he became their chief diamond setter.
